Overview
The Automation Developer will identify automation opportunities in software testing processes; design, develop, and execute automated QA tests and test automation scripts; improve testing and DevOps practices; support test automation tools; and collaborate with developers, architects, product owners, QA analysts, and users.
Responsibilities
• Identify opportunities for automation within software testing processes.
• Design and execute QA tests using scripts that automatically test functionality.
• Design and write test automation scripts.
• Utilize test automation frameworks.
• Work with QA analysts and software developers to find solutions.
• Review and improve the test automation approach.
• Analyze testing and DevOps processes, standards, and best practices and drive improvements.
• Provide technical support for test automation tools.
• Participate in sprint retrospectives to identify QA improvement opportunities.
• Evaluate test automation tools and processes and recommend best practices.
• Transform functional, business, and system knowledge into effective test case planning and execution.
• Create test data, analyze testing results, retest until expected results are obtained, conduct user reviews, and recommend changes to achieve acceptable results.
• Retest criteria in a live environment and recommend user sign-off for implementation.
• Work with developers, architects, product owners, and others to establish effective test plans based on feature documentation.
• Track and resolve testing, production, and other IT quality issues.
• Ensure test automation is source controlled, documented, and has disaster recovery in place.
Mandatory Qualifications
• 7+ years of experience identifying automation opportunities within software development and testing processes.
• 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and executing automated QA tests.
• 7+ years of experience designing and maintaining test automation scripts and frameworks, including Selenium.
• Experience designing and developing test automation using new technologies such as AI.
• Experience with enterprise-level performance testing tools such as LoadRunner.
• Experience identifying and documenting bugs and quality issues.
• Experience installing applications and databases relevant to automation.
• Knowledge of testing methods in an object-oriented environment.
• Experience working in traditional and agile teams using standard and DevOps processes and tools.
• Knowledge and experience using at least one programming language.
• Experience testing COTS solutions, in-house web applications, HL7-FHIR web services, APIs, reporting solutions, integrations, extensions, enhancements, and regression releases.
• Experience testing security components including SAML and JWT.
• Experience creating testing documentation and artefacts including test strategies, test plans, test use cases, and test scripts.
• Experience with API testing tools such as SOAP-UI and Postman.
• Knowledge and experience using SQL and other query languages.
• Experience performing accessibility testing against WCAG 2.0 and AODA requirements.
• Experience preparing test results reports, including performance and security testing results.
• Experience testing BI solutions, including data setup/integration and validation of reports and dashboards.
• Experience validating production release deployments and preparing testing reports.
• 7+ years of experience identifying and documenting issues and risks; maintaining defect logs and summary reports using tools such as Jira, Confluence, or TestRail; updating tasks and project status; participating in QA and cross-functional meetings; prioritizing test execution; managing shared test resources; and participating in walkthroughs and triage sessions.
• Proven technical leadership, analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, troubleshooting, consulting, customer service, organization, and multitasking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience working with federal, provincial, or broader public-sector healthcare providers.
• Knowledge of Public Sector Enterprise Architecture artefacts, processes, and practices.
• Knowledge of PMI and public-sector I&IT project management methodologies.
• Knowledge and experience with public-sector health-related projects.
• Knowledge of Ministry policy, IT project approval processes, Public Sector Unified I&IT Project Methodology, Public Sector Enterprise Architecture, Public Sector Gating process, and OPS Standard Systems Development Methodologies.
• Experience with large, complex IT health-related projects.
