Overview
The UX Designer will create effective, user-friendly, visually appealing interfaces for web and mobile applications. The role involves leading UX research and design workshops, translating research into service design artifacts, and collaborating with business, product, and development teams to deliver accessible digital experiences.
Responsibilities
• Create effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces.
• Design and iterate product functionality based on user testing.
• Design interfaces for digital displays, publications, media, and other creative materials.
• Apply a user-centred design approach and rapidly test and iterate designs.
• Conduct user research, interviews, and surveys.
• Translate research into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
• Lead design ideation and deliver service design blueprints, information architecture, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
• Deliver functional, accessible, usable, and aesthetically pleasing user interfaces.
• Collaborate with business, product, and development teams to facilitate product and service design vision and concepts.
• Design content that meets user needs and simplifies complex technical language and processes.
Mandatory Qualifications
• Experience facilitating UX design research using methods such as user interviews, diary studies, usability testing, usability metrics, A/B testing, and card sorting.
• Ability to lead UX projects, design workshops, and stakeholder/business-user alignment sessions.
• Experience managing end-to-end user research, from recruiting through synthesis.
• Experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
• Experience as a UX, interactive, or UI designer for web and mobile applications.
• Proficiency with design and prototyping tools, including Figma, Canvas, or similar tools.
• Experience delivering service design blueprints, information architecture, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
• Experience delivering accessible, usable, and aesthetically pleasing user interfaces.
• Experience collaborating with business, product, development, QA, and stakeholder teams.
• Experience designing content for user needs and simplifying complex technical language and processes.
• Ability to work with the Ontario Design System.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of accessibility testing.
• Knowledge of digital service standards.
• Experience addressing complex design challenges involving legacy systems and nuanced stakeholder/approval relationships.
• Proficiency designing with accessibility in mind and meeting WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
• Knowledge of network security and network protocols.
• Prior Public Service/OPS experience.
