Overview

Create effective, user-friendly, visually appealing interfaces and design overall product functionality to ensure a strong user experience. The role involves a user-centred design approach, user testing, research, and iterative design for web, mobile, and other digital materials.

Responsibilities

- Create effective, user-friendly, visually appealing interfaces.
- Design and iterate overall product functionality based on user testing.
- Design user interfaces for digital displays, publications, media, and other creative materials.
- Conduct user research, interviews, and surveys.
- Translate research into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
- Define and lead UX projects, design workshops, and stakeholder alignment sessions.
- Manage end-to-end user research from participant recruitment through synthesis.
- Lead design ideation and deliver service design blueprints, information architecture, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
- Synthesize findings into user research documents including journey maps, personas, service blueprints, and affinity maps.

Mandatory Qualifications

- Experience facilitating UX research through user interviews, diary studies, usability testing, usability metrics tracking, A/B testing, and card sorting.
- Experience synthesizing research findings into user journey maps, personas, service blueprints, and affinity maps.
- Experience leading design ideation and delivering service design blueprints, information architecture, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
- Experience working in an Agile, sprint-based development environment.
- Understanding and working knowledge of iterative product development cycles: Discovery, Agile, Beta, and Live.
- Experience with Figma user interface design software.
- Experience designing interfaces with a design system.
- Ability to work with the Ontario Design System.

Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge of accessibility testing.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Design System.
- Knowledge of Digital Service Standard.
- Experience addressing complex design challenges involving legacy systems and nuanced stakeholder/approval relationships.
- Proficiency designing with accessibility in mind and meeting WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
- Prior Public Service/OPS experience.

Skills and Experience

- Relevant GUI design experience based on user interaction and performance.
- UX, interactive design, UI design, or similar experience designing web and mobile applications.
- UX project leadership, design workshops, and stakeholder alignment.
- End-to-end user research management.
- Design and prototyping tools, including Figma and Canvas.
- Web development technology limitations and appropriate use.
- User-centred design, usability testing, and iterative product design.
- Wireframes, user stories, user flows, user journeys, mockups, and prototypes for multiple devices and interfaces.
- Strategic UX design decision-making, design problem solving, and user feedback gathering.
- Clear documentation, reports, reviews, and assessments.
- Collaboration with developers, QA specialists, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Deadline management, competing priorities, and client relationship management.
